Inferi - Divinity in War

Simply Amazing. - 100%

Rubiks_Blade, June 13th, 2010

There are two words that can only be used to describe this album, perfect and amazing. I don't know how the band members of Inferi somehow pulled off this amazing musical stunt, however they did it. Every song on here is perfect, even the intro. This album is probably they best American melodic death metal album ever made, without a doubt.

The first song, "Divinity in War" is the into to this amazing album. Starting off with an orchestral piece along with metal influences, this intro is amazing. Even the solo that Malcolm Pugh pulls off is beautiful. The next three songs, "Conjure of Sacrifice", "Midnight Massacre", and "Bathe in Flames" are all well executed musical compositions that have no flaws whatsoever. However, the best one here would have to be the next song, "Cabal of Thieves". This song is art. Mastery at the highest level. The overlapping melodies and tremelo picking create an amazing atmosphere. The ending solo is perfect, as all of Malcolm Pugh's solos are.

The "Fiendish Awakening" series, parts one and two are both epic masterpieces of melodic death metal. Starting off with an acoustic intro then leading into a full blown metal attack, these songs are what make Inferi unique. They set a mood of war and hope at the same time with use of various minor scales.

"In Armor" and "The Bringers of Ascending Fire" are both epic finales, with stunning lyrics about war and retribution, as all of Inferi's lyrics are. The album closes, leaving the listener wanting more, a great cliffhanger effect.

What surprised me about this band though is that they are solely underrated and not recognized. To me, they are the greatest American melodeath band out there. However, as only 100 copies of this album were made, they obviously do not have the fan base they deserve. If you are a fan of epic, neoclassical melodic death metal with a touch of black metal, pick this album up. You will not be disappointed. It is one of the few albums that I can actually give 100% to for its mastery.
