One Shot, one Kill. - 93%

Vyqnayl, March 19th, 2013

To conclude briefly for the busy readers, this Album is a massive load of the finest German black metal. You will not make a mistake by buying this. Every track is worthy of listening of a thousand times and probably more.

The music: this album is very catchy and it enchants the listener within a few minutes and is hard to take a break from. It is a pity that a complete listen feels rather short. The black metal heard here is nothing novel, but these guys are pushing the borders using quite conventional ingredients like crushing guitars, a thundering bass, and fast blast beats with some really cool fills and some samples/interludes. The tempo changes between a mid-paced one and fast parts reaching about 220 bpm, yet there is no inflationary use of blast beats. The voice of Zingultus is fierce and high-pitched and fits perfectly in every detail. The songs are sung in German, which I like quite much. The album is quite monotonous, but rarely gets boring. Personally, I would compare it to Tsjuder´s Desert Northern Hell, but is has a more dark and intense atmosphere. There is not track that should not be on this album. 90/100

Production: the production is one of the "best" I have heard in black metal, meaning the cleanest without killing the atmosphere. Every Instrument is audible. The drums are tuned low and sound natural as well as brutal, the guitars are heavy and crushing, and even the bass can be heard. The vocals sound as they should i.e. raw and brutal. The instruments are well-balanced and there is quite a lot of reverb which contributes quite well to the overall atmosphere, though it makes the whole production a bit muddy. 95/100
