Force Fed Flesh - The Human Virus

who the fuck knows really - 49%

I have no idea what the overarching idea or point of this release is. I guess it's 'death metal' but I'd be hard pressed to think of any death metal bands that sound like this. Also the band plays the main melody from 'Eye Of The Tiger' on 'Post Mortem Rot Pile'. I just don't know anymore.

This sounds like death metal... after a fact. The riffs tend to sound like heavily slowed down thrash riffs in the slow passages and the faster tremolo numbers don't really sound like anything I've heard before; the band's sense of melody is sort of upbeat and esoteric and can't be compared to anything else out there. I almost think this is a joke band; that's the only idea that really makes all the pieces fall into place- the bizarre riffs, the sort of slapdash song construction, the somewhat tongue-in-cheek vibe of the music as a whole. Apparently this was a real, gigging band though, so who knows.

Beyond the idiosyncrasies, the music isn't very interesting. Everything gets repeated four times before a new riff is introduced, the instrumental technique of the members is capable but not astounding, and most of the music comes off as rather plain and unadorned despite its strangeness, as though the band kind of sat around, though of bizarre ideas to link together, and stopped writing the song after it hit a certain length without any kind of revision. None of the weird ideas or even the very backwards style of melodic construction really goes anywhere because everything about this release is so haphazard and ultimately pointless. Again, I'm not entirely sure whether this is a joke or not, but if it is, it's not really funny, just confusing, and if it isn't, well, I just don't know what to think in that case.

This isn't really much more than a curiosity piece, but I guess at least I can say that it's really fucking curious. Even if it isn't exactly, you know, good, there's nothing else out there that really sounds like 'The Human Virus'. People who just want things to sound strange without caring about if they also sound good will like this, so I guess I recommend it to Sigh fans.
