Demonlord - Hellforged

Hellforged - 88%

EG_Power, November 1st, 2010

Hungary is not a very famous metal country. I’ve heard a very few Hungarian bands before. But Demonlord could record a surprisingly good disc.

Hellforged is a power metal with some heavy elements in early Helloween/Running Wild style plus a bit of folk tunes in a couple of songs. The Relic is the most Running Wildish track and the main riff from Return to Nowhere was taken from Helloween “Metal Invaders”. The voice of the singer reminds me the mix of Kai Hansen (especially “Walls of Jericho” period) with Rock’n’Rolf. Balázs Jurásek’s singing is rather good however he does not use high-pitched screaming.

Fast power/speed tracks dominate here, the very best among them are Cheap Salvation, Demonlord, Morphing into Real, The Piper is Back and the top track is Return to Nowhere. Some keys and string arrangements are used in a ballad Find a Goal and it is a pretty good song too. The most unusual track here is Kill the Lord with rock-n-roll rhythms and horn parts.

The other songs are solid mid-tempo heavy metal. The weakest track for me is Murder One but it is not bad at all simply being not so exciting.

The album has a strong production and it sounds really good.

So, Hellforged is a very good album. I like it much. It doesn’t matter that it lacks some new ideas but it is right for all fans of true old-school metal. Check it out!
