Third Degree - Outstay

It's A Dead Fish Alright... - 19%

Erin_Fox, October 28th, 2006

Shady production hinders this grinding mess, with the record sounding completely muffled in comparison to most commercial releases. Meanwhile the boom-tappa beat of “Let’s Hail Satan” gives the song the ambience of a second-rate Impaled Nazarene, injecting a bit of punk ethic into the mix without much artistic creativity.

If that’s not enough, the second track sounds almost identical to the first. Things continue on from there, same-sounding, boring and muddled by stuffy mastering. Although more creativity and variety in this album’s songwriting would exonerate Third Degree, it is the pillow-over-the-speaker sound of this album that ultimately makes it one for the circular file.

You can certainly see a bit of promise behind this band’s efforts, but that fact alone is not sufficient enough to make “Outstay” a worthy listen. This album does however gain a second star due to it’s goofy fish head cover, which has been the topic of much speculation and entertainment around these parts as of late. Try again, guys.
