Confusing yet rewarding obscure black-ish metal - 84%

Spawnhorde, May 5th, 2008

Well, I was not really expecting what I heard when I bought this obscure 7" (feat. members of bands Baxaxa and Ungod), but I think it's for the better since this is some weird and amazingly cool stuff! Side A features a keyboard/piano(!?) driven black metal work which goes through a variety of themes and ideas with different tempos and thick driving percussion. Side B is similar and almost sounds like a new-wave band playing black metal, which is ultimately confusing yet great. Chords are strummed malevolently and the vocals are flanged and alien-sounding, which I can take (sounds kind of like some of the vocals on the Children of Maani EP). The liner notes are way over the top ("It's nice from you to buy this record so we can get now drugs, big cars and lotsa women. Fuck we have forgot some weapons to shot [sic] some bastards!") but I was expecting REALLY seedy, disturbing noise-influenced garage black metal and actually got a pretty awesome mystical experience on purple clear wax.
