Masterpiece - Colors of Conflict

This mini-album is as their band name says. - 95%

Yes, it is very true. This was a piece of artwork to say the least. Masterpiece is a very unique band with operatic male vocals, and I love operatic male vocals! It's too bad there are so few of them out there. Regardless, this demo is one of the best power metal demos I've heard from Japan. I eagerly await a full length album from them.

Although it's not a complete album, it's still somewhat long. It's even complete with a couple instrumentals. But they are done very well, indeed. This proves that even though the vocals overpower the music most of the time, take out the vocals and you have one kick-ass instrumental. But the rest are fast and heavy with the operatic vocals adding to the music beautifully.

There's little I'd add to this, except maybe female vocals occassionally and harsh vocals, once again, occassionally. But, hey, they're rather new to the scene.

The keyboardist is a female and she isn't all that bad, although I have heard better. As for the rest, well, they all have their strong points. The drumming is seemingly useless, but it's fine in the instrumentals. The songs all have amazing emotion put into them, even though it DOES have a horrible English accent. Think of it much like Yama-B from Galneryus, but louder and less nasel-sounding.

Anyway, I have high hopes for them, despite their... other mini album being not so hot.
