Fate's Warning All Over Again - 72%

PowerProg_Adam, October 26th, 2003

I personally find The Quiet Room to be a very talented mid-period Fate's Warning type band, but this album seems to have a bit too much filler and just kind of loses me about 3/4 of the way through. The vocalist definately has a Ray Alder sounding voice though, however the guitarist, although not bad, isn't exactly a Jim Matheos. There are pretty much three songs on this album that I find to be above average.

A Different Scene is made a pretty good song by the lyrics and how they are sang, with a fluctionation of rhythm and pitch seamlessly from high to low. If you read the lyrics for Fate's Warning's Point of View though, they are eeriely similar.

Grudge is rather evil sounding. Its pretty much a doom type song with progressive metal singing. I personally like this song, because it isn't every day that you find a progressive metal band who are pissed off about something.

Second Time Around is alone a reason to buy this album. It is the reason I bought it in fact. The singer does a great job on sounding like mid-period Geoff Tate. As the chorus kicks in "Nothing remains unchanged, the second time around" the vocals remarkably shift from rather slow and calm to a much higher octave, where they are maintained for quite some time.

My recommendation would be to try to find this album used, because you may be disappointed after about half way through it. However, if you are a huge fan of mid-period Queensryce or Fate's Warning, you'd love this album.
