Hatespawn / Signum Diabolis - Death Cult / Spell of the Fullmoon

A busy Angel of Doom and a great Split! - 87%

DerMarc, March 22nd, 2006

Patrick Engel is one of this musicans having more projects than fingers at one hand. Two of them are represented on this Split-EP.

HATESPAWN is morbid and thrashy Death Metal like POSSESSED or early DEATH, but just on the first Song. Second Song got a lot of early CANNIBAL CORPSE into it. I personally can not believe that these two songs (exspecially the second) are orginally made for the never finished 4th Album of IMPENDING DOOM. Both songs also represent Kaufmanns Vocals, varying from OBITUARY-styled screams to deep Growls.
Meanwhile, Engel is doing the job on the instruments very well. Drumming is fast and well-placed, guitars are shredding and brutal enough to blast your brain out of your head!
Two different songs and i wonder how it would have sound if there were released on an IMPENDING DOOM Album.

SIGNUM DIABOLIS ist a solo project by Engel, so that he just not have to deal with the instruments. His job is also to use his voice what he is doing very well!
On this side of the EP, there is only one single song, but with a length over seven minutes, you need the same time to hear like for the two HATESPAWN songs. It's a typical Black Metal Song, sounding like he comes directly from the year 1992.
Straight and cold, dark and morbid, without any crap our fillers. Over seven minutes of true Black Metal how I like it.

At the End, this record is very well done, but simply to short. It's a got demonstration of what is waiting to come from SIGNUM DIABOLIS and HATESPAWN, but when you get used to the music and think that it's great... it ends.

So, whatever, there are three fantastic Death /Thrash and Black Metal Songs waiting for you! Get it, as long as there are any copys!
