Bergthron - Verborgen in den Tiefen der Wälder...

Ripping you a new forest, it's Bergthron! - 92%

WhenWolvesReturn, October 23rd, 2004

Definitely impressive piece of work, as is any Bergthron album. A 30-minute song with more timing, rythm, and mood changes than Mimi Bobeck from the Drew Carey show, with less makeup.

The drums and vocals are what stand out on this release, with strong atmospheric backing keyboards. Guitars and bass are more timekeepers than actual elements of the music, but none the less add to the whole experience of this album. THE VOCALIST IS AMAZING!!! I can't get over how good the vocalist is, having the ability to belt out sounds like he does and with such perfect timing. I'm almost jealous of his talent, in fact, I'm almost jealous of the talent the whole band posesses!

If you could check out one album, check this one out, with 33 minutes and probably 2 definitive songs thrown in to the mix, it'll keep you interested with the sounds of landscapes and ancient pagans running through woods on their way to their next meal.

Desperate and Hungry metal, for the Desperate and Hungry...

Better with each listen - 95%

Bukkake, May 20th, 2003

This recording consists of only one song, but it is over half an hour long and deserves the overall description of EPIC. It is black metal with folk, atmospheric keyboards at times (not in the fashion that most other BM bands use them), and musical changes galore. It could easily be broken down into multiple songs, perhaps 3 or 4, but it has more of an impact atmospherically being composed as a single song. The folk instrumental parts are very similar to the folk parts of the first two Satyricon albums Dark Medieval Times and The Shadowthrone. Even added are the effects of wind in the background to give it a forest feel that completes the whole experience of the album. This is an album to listen to with headphones on, while out in the forest, I suggest. An excellent album of great atmosphere, dark haunting elements, and an overall extremely satisfying and powerful song that gets more pleasing upon each listen.
