Benighted - Psychose

Benighted (Fra) - Psychose - 76%

Harachte, October 25th, 2004

French band Benighted was founded in 1998 and barely two years later the band released their debut album “Benighted”, a CD which I never heared.
The bio describes their musical style as being ‘brutal Black Death’ although I personally think Benighted is more a kind of Black Metal influenced band with room for melody structures and double vocals, one a rather traditional Black scream, the other a really stupendous Death grunt.

And they like variety and speed, that’s for sure. The speed parts are more Black Metal oriented (“Dégénérenscence”; Yes, quite a few lyrics in the French language), whereas the down tempo parts are more Death Metal related (“Feasting On The Desinterred Corpse”). A track like “Internal Sufferings” is an accoustic instrumental one, and the industrial/electronic bonustrack “Slay The Benighted” is one of those songs you’ll have to come to learn appreciating.

“Psychose” has a rather nice production and also the artwork on the front cover has its’ charms. Surely, Benighted is one of the best French bands I’ve come around the last few years.
