Goetia - Wolfthorn

Brilliant - 96%

Sarkoth, December 23rd, 2003

When I heard this album I thought it was fucking brilliant. Every song on this album is a great song in its own right with very good lyrics and fantastic song writing.
The Intro is actually very good, a fearful sounding keyboard with wolves howling in the background; I usually hate intros but this one is very good.
Wolfthorn, the title track, is the zenith of this album for me. The guitar sounds raw and the lyrics, as I have come to expect from Goetia are second to none.
The next song which is Adoration if my memory serves me right is also a very good song with the great line "necromantic adoration of Christ" in it. The first half of this songis pure BM but it then shifts in the second half of this song to quite slow Death Metal with palm muting and Death Metal grunt vocals.
The Flame of Lucifer is probably my least favourite song on this EP as I just don't think the riffs are quite as good or work as well together as in other songs.
The last song Let Their Dream Be Dead is a solid song which has a fantastic name in my opinion. Starts off slow then gets very fast.
Throughout this whole album the guitars range from being quite mid pitched to quite low pitched with very heavy (but not fuzzy) distortion. The vocals are very individual and actually sound like a dog barking and they are very very innovative and effective. This is a great album and certainly is one of my favourite ever albums.
