Great Archive Material - 85%

I just recieved this compilation from blackmetal.com and I'm mightily impressed. I've long been a fan OFC's very raw and primitive but philosphic death metal, and this 1st in 2 part compilation of unreleased material is very welcome indeed. Merciless records did a great job with the packaging: lots of photos, lenghthy detailed recording and line up notes etc.). We kick off with the 1988 INHUMANITIES demo which is a raw but very functional recording. Not as heavy on the fast tempos as the band's later work, but it's essentially 4 otherwise unavailable cuts that are very much in a Sodom style. Even here, though, the band's quirky rhythyms and slightly Voivod influenced structures are apparent. The sound of the 1988 rehearsal that follows (cuts 5-12) is a bit rougher and less easily audiable, but still more totally unheard stuff is here. The real killer stuff here is tracks 13-16, a recording of a 1994 live show with some of the band's best material. The versions here of "Plateau Of Invincibility" "Orphiuchus Rex" "An Ending In Fire" and a cover of Sodom's "Nuctermeron" are blessed with great sound and vicious performances. If volume two is nearly as good as this, We should all be in old school death metal heaven! For fans of ANGELCORPSE, REVENGE, CONQUEROR and elder death metalin general, OFC were one of the death metal undergorund's greatest bands, and this collection is a testament to that! Highyl recomended!!
