Magnificat - Opus Nigrum Overture

Good... But not the best. - 65%

DivineDevil, September 5th, 2007

Magnificat. Never heard of him before this, but now I have listened to this album, I am eager for more. This album contains some very heavy and depressing riffs at some times, but not, however, everywhere.

This album can be best described as a masterpiece in pieces, some pieces of this album are really great, and I just can't stop listening to them once I hear them. However, sometimes I think the riffs are quite annoying. The good thing is that just when you think you want to stop listening, a new piece of music comes that is just great.

My feelings for this album are therefore quite mixed. At the one hand I think that it is beautiful, and on the other hand it's just bad. I think that the parts that are good weigh up against the parts that are bad well enough, so that I still think this is worth a score of 65. I think it is quite good, but there are definitely better (black) metal albums out there, or one-man bands, for that matter
