Urn - 666 Megatons

A lame duck - 51%

Milo, February 28th, 2005

This album is a not-so-great collection of thrash songs with a little generic BM vibe to it, but it falls short at being fully enjoyable or memorable. That happens because the album has little-to-no variation in the song structures, riffs and drumming patterns, factors that are capital for a thrash albums.

The songs consist of full speed blasts of slightly blackened thrash with very simple structures. Verse-chorus-verse patterns are easily found here. Practically no midpaced or slow sections. The riffs are not very memorable, as shown by the first three songs and when they do find one, they milk the hell out of it, using small variations to keep the listener interested. Technically speaking, there are no influences from other genres, except for the aforementioned BM vibe.

At least, the album is very intense. The drumming, although not creative or diverse, is very fast and the snare and double bass have a pretty loud sound. There are some blastbeats and a whole lot of double bass strings. As for the vocals, they are just standard BM shrieks.

The songs are generally bland and uninteresting for the most part, except when they find a good riff to abuse. Every song has at least one riff worthy of note, but in my opinion, it’s too little to keep my interest. If you like speed just for the hell of it, get it. Other than that, it’s not recommended.
