Cerebral Effusion - Smashed and Splattered Organs

Too much"gurgling"...but it Brutal Death Metal - 80%

Invaginator, June 16th, 2007

Down the sewage and through the septic world of gurgling guttural Brutal Death Metal - and you will find Cerebral Effusion hitting ya crotch with a crowbar. And if you survive the crowbar, await the daggers that wil stab into your already festering flesh. Sounding like most bands in the genre, Cerebral Effusion do not differ; their lyrics are obscure, perverse, sick etc., and serve to make the impact of the music complete - brutal and sick. And although there isn't any new stuff to hear in CE, you might like the slow parts of the songs, the breaks and the blastings. The production is amazing, as you can distinct every instrument, and they really are creating a great sound. And what makes this release maybe a bit different from the others - well, they incorporate a lot of the early Cannibal Corpse sounds into their own music. And just because of this special CC flavor, they have a better sound than most bands, that try to copy/paste all the brutal and fast music. Combining new Brutal Death Metal with the sound of the old school kings, CC, makes pretty crushing music, so you can take chance and listen to CE: The CD also contains a clip to the song "Flesh Art", that has a classic violin end.

Complete waste of time - 0%

Goregiastic Records is easily one of the worst labels around, releasing one ass-flavoured album after the next, and helping to further pollute the already cancerous demograph we know as Metal. In fact, their only shining moments I can recall in their history were the Hideous Mangleus demo compilation and the first two Pustulated albums. Otherwise, the generic blast-grind of Torsofuck and the shitty chug-a-lug-a riffing of Carnal were only the cream of the crap.
Cerebral Effusion, in this case, is exactly what one would come to expect from such a bunch of assclowns like the fine folks at Goregiastic. There's really very little to say about these guys, as the vast majority of their sound is not their own. Cannibal Corpse is not an influence on this album, it's the whole internal makeup. Really, just blindly pick a track on here and give it a listen. If you can't determine why those riffs are "so familiar", kindly paint the walls of your bedroom with lead-based paint and takes deep breaths. Between ridiculously blatant Barnes-era ripoffs are a few spots of "original" material if you'd like to call it that, but really, directionless chugging has been practically patented by shitty East Coast bands, and there's no talent here to get in the way of the boredom here. The drumming is awful, the riffs are stolen, what bass? And the vocals are average burping grunts. The worst part about this release has got to be the atmosphere, as from beginning to end, it feels half-assed; almost as if the band had the intention of starving you mentally.
Apparently, there's actually a video to accompany one of the faceless tracks on here, but it'll be a cold day in hell when I decide to pick this up again, so make your own assumptions. Bottom line, listen to Cannibal Corpse, and use this CD to wedge things out of cracks or use as a coaster.

Cannibal Corpse Theft - 30%

My first experience with Cerebral Effusion was their disc "Violence in Motion," an album that came across extremely mediocre. With their next full length release they have spun out "Smashed & Splattered Organs." The album has drawn comparisons to Suffocation and Deeds of Flesh, but the only contrast I can hear between those bands and Cerebral Effusion is that they play Brutal Death Metal. Actually this band sounds like a near blatant rip off of pretty much everything Cannibal Corpse did with Chris Barnes on vocals. Obviously, there are many bands that sound like good ole Cannibal Corpse, but these guys straight out take all the best riffs and attempt to incorporate them into their work as if the educated Death Metal listener is not going to notice. Really the only difference is that these guys are not as technical (Not that Cannibal Corpse is technical compared to Psycroptic, for example.), and the vocalist has a deep voice that does not sound like Chris Barnes. The songs are not only poorly done Cannibal Corpse material the music comes across tired, passionless, and repetitive. The lyrics are bad enough that they make Chris Barnes seem like a master poet and the gore ornamenting the album cover is the usual type of fodder for music ready to be cast into a pigeon-hole. Boring is not usually a word in my vocabulary but in Cerebral Effusion's case "BORING" is an apt description.
