Sorgsvart - Fortapt fra verden i vakkert selvmord

An unknown gem of an album - 90%

Darkwinterdweller, July 22nd, 2007

Not exactly sure how I came accross such an obscure band as this, but I bought this album offline for some reason a few weeks ago, not really sure what to expect. However, I was left quite surprised.

This album has a little bit of everything in terms of black metal. There are clearly some moments of raw black metal, with Bathory sounding riffs present. At other times, keyboards are used, and create an epic type of atmosphere. Clean vocals are also used at times, and almost have a choir-like sound to them. The songs are all quite long, the shortest being seven minutes and the longest being over ten minutes. They all go through a series of changes throughout the course of each song, mainly changing between riff-driven passages with raw black metal vocals to more melodic keyboard passages with some clean vocals present. This makes the album interesting and fails to be boring no matter how long the song may be.

The lyrics are said to be about nature, Norwegian landscapes, and misanthropy. All the songs appear to be written in Norwegian as well. Overall, this album is worth the purchase, that is, if you can find it anywhere. Hopefully Sorg will continue to make music here, as this is a very worth debut release.
