Tales of Darknord - Dismissed

Decent Russian Death Metal - 80%

megafury, May 15th, 2004

They’re a fairly unknown death metal band from Russia. The growls are above average. Real sharp throat-burning, possessed vocals I could probably decipher from other bands. Music is neither fast nor slow, pretty mid-paced, in terms of death metal. Some parts of songs sound like a slower Slayer. There is some melody in the solos that swoop by every now and then but they don’t last long. Most notable different song is track four. It starts with a haunted house creepy atmosphere, and is comprised of the mellowest solo they put in the entire album. The solos in track five is pretty mellow and reminds me of old-school Gothenburg melo-death metal in the vein of Dark Tranquility. No instruments really stand out. Like I can’t say they have a blazing guitarist or an inhuman drummer. Everything is blended evenly and that’s okay in my opinion. They got nice catchy grooves and put in some frills but nothing innovative. The wheel is re-invented yet again with this release. My only beef with the album is the lyrics. It’s made of broken English, so many grammatical errors that would make an English teacher commit suicide. But what would you expect from some Russian dudes. I’m surprised they even speak a couple English words. Besides, all the themes are basic death metal sadism, nothing I’d try to put much thought into. This album is for the guy that’s running out of new death metal bands to listen to yet wants to hear some standard stuff. I could honestly live without this album but it wouldn’t hurt owning this. I think I ‘ll keep this one in my collection.
