Amduscias

I got this album off a friend, seeing as he doesn't like metal. To which I automatically concluded "If he doesn't like it, then I'd love it in an instant". I was wrong.

This album somewhat reminds me of some of Illidiance's songs, minus the cheesy sounding keyboards. It also kinda sounds like a better produced Darkthrone, but Amduscias still manages to retain the essence of their mediocrity.

The first impressions of this album are quite disappointing. The opening track had a pretty nice opening melody, but it all went downhill from there. It was so disappointing that I just put the album away and didn't come back to it after a few months later in order to write this review.
The songs are pretty generic sounding, and I didn't really enjoy much of the songs. But I did somewhat enjoy the tracks, "Hell On Earth" and "Dominion Of Darkness" but they still have much room for improvement.

The vocals are well done. The drumming is acceptable. And the solos have a nice tone to them. But god damn it, the rhythm guitars are like having a mosquito trying to fly into your ear! But it does have its moments, though.

I'd say that the band does have potential, they know what they're doing with their instruments. But they really need to work on their composition so they don't fall into the trap of black metal genericness.

I saw this cd in the used bin for $7, so I picked it up. I could tell it was a black metal album because of the song titles and album cover. I was not disapointed with this release. The drumming is average, blasts through just about every song. The vocals are very thrashy, they remind me of a less harsh (but still brutal) version of Impiety (Singapore). The guitar riffs are really old school, not really in the vein of bands like Mayhem, Bathory or Darkthrone, but old school none-the-less. I was suprised to find out that this band is Japanese, I find them alot darker than bands like Sabbat and Sigh. This release isn't anything to get too excited over, but if you want some good, dark, and morbid black metal, pick it up.
