Crucified Barbara - In Distortion We Trust

A good all-female heavy metal band? Yep. - 87%

KayTeeBee, May 23rd, 2005

Well, let’s face it. Most (if not all) heavy metal bands that have only female members all suck…Or at least the ones I know. Well, Crucified Barbara’s debut album “In Distortion We Trust” proves this aforementioned fact WRONG. This, believe it or not, is a heavy metal masterpiece. Yes, it does have some punk/rock riffs from time to time, but you just can’t ignore that fact that these chicks are there to kick ass. Take 4 girls with a lot of attitude, that can play their instruments very well and deliver amazing intensity and force, and you have Crucified Barbara.

Ok, let’s talk about the guitars. The tone isn’t annoying at all. It always stays perfectly clear, and it doesn’t affect the listening experience at all. That’s about it for the tone, it won’t blow you away but it won’t disappoint. Now for the riffs. These have to be some the best heavy metal riffs made this year, no kidding. They NEVER get repetitive, and they’re always heavy and melodic. Another good part about the guitars is that there’s so many leads on this album! The leads are always different, and they prove that the guitarists in this band can kick a huge amount of ass. Just listen to the lead in “Play Me Hard” (the first song), and you’ll be immediately convinced. The vocals also rule. The vocalist has unlimited attitude. Always remember that a great vocalist mixed with amazing vocals is always amazing. And don’t worry, these chicks aren’t there to talk about why their last boyfriend left them or which guy they love or meaningless girly shit like that.

My favourite track is “Going Down”. I do admit the intro riff sounds a bit more like punk/rock, but I just can’t ignore the fact that it rules. The song is quite short (2:52), but the leads provided near the end of the song just blew me away.

Now for the negative sides of this album (which most albums have) . Some of the riffs do sound too much like punk, and that fact makes the album a bit boring in certain parts (See “Wet Myself”) . The song after that sounds quite a bit like rock too, but it’s still good.

Overall, this album was amazing, and it proves that girls can do heavy metal. A great album if you like plain good old heavy metal.
