Flesh Grinder - Libido Corporis

Grinding Away - 78%

scuddapop, May 5th, 2008

Flesh Grinder is standard death/grind band with all the usual poorly understood medical references and atrocious amounts of gore. Once you deal with that the music is suprisingly pleasant. Take in mind that it is no Exhumed or anything but it is good.

Pros

Throughout the entire album the bass is intelligently audible which is extremely rare. It adds to the aural shockwave dissenting on your ears. The vocals are alright nothing too amazing, the average high pitches are there and the death grunts. What sets this album away from alot of bands is it has an amazing gurgle that comes in on a few tracks...it stands out because its not overplayed. And there are some sweet fucking solos on this cd. I counted about 9 solos maybe more. They aren't chaotic but they aren't neoclassical Luca Turilli-style either...they are just some good solos nothing that makes me cream my pantaloons or anything. The riffs, themselves, fit the music but don't have too much melody or groove.

Cons

Drums overpower everything in this cd...except solos. The guitar is set too far in the background for my tastes. There is some high-pitched Macabre-esque screaming on "Intense Vascular Engorgement" that just dont fit with the picture this cd creates in the mind.

Overall

Nothing too memorable but diffinitely a good listen...kinda short at 35 minutes but this cd wasn't made to be anything more than 35 minutes of sweet death/grind...one brutal listen if gore is your thing.
