Vlad - In the Mist

Very good quality black metal - 92%

overkill666, August 17th, 2008

Vlad, as well all know, moves on to be Blut Aus Nord. But what did Vindsval do with this project before the move? He released very suitable quality black metal for this demo. This is something worth the time to dig up, and give a listen to.

The quality of the music is great if you are into that underground sound. The production, in my opinion, is fine and helps you hear what is going on. I like black metal, and I listen to a lot of underground material, but I hate the low-fi production style that doesn't let you hear anything going on. Vlad doesn't make this mistake, thankfully. The musical work is also very well done. The guitar riffs are not too simple, or boring. There is some tremolo style picking, but it's not overwhelming. Overall, the guitar plays a major role in Vlad. The vocals are also very well done. Vindsval uses the typical black metal scream, but it is very fitting to his music. There is also the use of a keyboard. The song 'Forgotten Land' is primarily a keyboard track, with some evil sounding chants. This track is very 'eerie' sounding, and I enjoyed listening to it. The drumming is also well inserted into the mix. Theres nothing bad I can say about the drum work of Vindsval.

Vlad was a very good solo project of Vindsval. We know that Vindsval moves on to make Blut Aus Nord, but you cannot overlook this project. This is very good quality black metal, and mixed very well. I'd suggest looking into this if you are into the underground side of black metal.
