Dead Congregation - Purifying Consecrated Ground - 90%

Phuling, April 23rd, 2008

This is what arose from the ashes of Nuclear Winter, though Anastasis is the only guy the two bands have in common. And while Nuclear Winter was a Kaamos worshipping band Dead Congregation is more to the American scene of death metal.

Seriously heavy, churning strings opens the gates to another dimension. A dimension where god is a since-long forgotten word, and what’s left is a species of demons in this dark world of morbidity. The full and fat sound really lets the powerful guitar and bass work shine through. Shine like a blackened guiding star for all that’s unholy. Some of the greatest and most powerful, well-planned riffing is to be found on Purifying consecrated ground. Pulverizing drums and nightmarish growls that’ll haunt your dreams…

They mix some wicked old school death metal with a dash of the newer schooled US-style. And on some occasions I find myself relating to Cannibal Corpse for the heavy, slow, churning breakdowns. Really looking forward to their next output, hopefully as powerful as this one.

Nefarious reader, do you like SATAN? How about the thought of impaling a child molester priest on a spear, do you dig that kind of amusing shit? What about fucking your girlfriend doggy style on a Catholic church alter, is that your type of fun and excitement? Would you like to blast Pat Robertson in the face with a shovel? Yeah, I figured you’d be shaking your head like a lap dog on a demons lap at those happy images. Tell you all what, I may have found the soundtrack to go with those acts of pleasurable depravity. Check out Dead Congregation and their EP “Purifying Consecrated Ground.”

What we got here is traditional Death Metal with a vibe reminiscent of Incantation mixed with some Suffocation, held together by the Inveracity drummers intense beats. Each track is filled with rabid fretwork of all speeds to induce head crunching melodies. The bass adds to the groove laden heaviness at middle and slow rhythms, and vocals are deep enough to be Death Metal, but are audible enough that I can make out every other word… It is just enough to make me want to crucify Jesus all over again.

I specifically like the songs Lucid Curse and Auguring an Eternal War. Both songs are in the 5 and 6 minute range. They are good mixes of this bands abilities to harmonize, solo, and change speeds quicker than a whore moving from one rich guy to another. Plus I always like the sound of a drum kit being mauled to the point where I gotta wonder if the fucking thing is bolted down to keep it from disintegrating.

Check these guys out Death Metal fans cause you ain’t gonna be disappointed.
