Gruesome Stuff Relish - Teenage giallo grind - 95%

Phuling, January 15th, 2009

Gruesome Stuff Relish’s debut fullength from 2002 has now been re-released by the fine folks at No Escape Records. I can’t think of a single bad release on that label, they seem to have a nack for finding killer acts. But then again we already know this is a killer album by a killer band.

Bringing you the goods of old school goregrind "Teenage giallo grind" starts off in such a magnificent manner, as you’re instantly thrown back in time to when Impetigo and Carcass ruled the scene. We have some absolutely awesome bands flourishing with this type of grinding, like for instance Blood Freak and Frightmare (or basically almost the entire roster of Razorback Records). So what can a band like Gruesome Stuff Relish offer to the already scene? Well, a ton of groove of murderous quality. Among the zombie slashing, cannibalized, horror loving, gore drenched grindcore I detect a hint of old school death metal as well, the Swedish scene in particular. I’d guess bands like Dismember, Grave and Nihilist aren’t exactly strangers to this threesome.

This is an absolutely essential album for fans of gore from yore, as it’s spectacular in every way. The sound is great, the blasting sounds real and not triggered to produce inhuman speed, the riffs are slick, and you’re absolutely drenched in gore. Coming at you from every direction; whether it’s the artwork, gurgling vocals or samples. And to top it off you’ll also get five bonus tracks from their split with Gorerotted and Gronibard.
