December Wolves - Completely Dehumanized

Completey Thrashed - 92%

brainsmasher, November 2nd, 2004

Not knowing how their "Tilten Years" album was, I can only judge This band based on this album and "Blasterpiece Theatre." Based on these two releases I'd say that December Wolves are very Important to black metal for merging it with some of the deadliest and headbangingest thrash known to man.

Everything they do on Completely Dehumanized is done with more confidence and aggression than most other bands can even dream of. Though its super thrashtastic black metal, they stand so tall and with such a beefy girth that they almost seem like a death metal band on a good but weird tangent. And there's just enough melody thrown in here and there to identify it more akin to a black metal band than anything.

The drumming and drum production on this album isn't the calibre that this album could possible rule even more with, but I think if the percussion were any better, it might sort of distract you from the riffing, which is certainly the attention grabber at all times here. The drumming is pretty blasteriffic which is essential, and hes confident enough to fill whenever he wants to as well. I just don't think hes all that creative or original, most of his fills are snare/tom/snare/crash or some variation on that, which is sort of typical. He relies on the skank, the blast and the slayer beat a lot. As good as he is though, i hated to see him leave after this album as well as see the band turn to a drum machine for "Blasterpiece Theatre." in closing, this guy is tight as hell, and pretty damn good, i'd like to see what he has to offer maybe a year from now, but he quit drumming and started a solo project called "Serpent Eclipse" which is totally lame.

I have to finish this up soon, so I'll address the guitar playing briefly. RULES, FUCKING KILLS. The riffing is the most metal style you could ask for. Its a perfect blend of thrash and black metal, a style that isn't attempted very often at all. It seems like the guitar player had a wealth of creativity while he was writing this album, because there's not very many bad riffs on here. I really couldn't even attempt to pin some of this guys guitar playing influences, hes very original, which is what makes this such a good release. Oh, and there's no annoying solos on the whole album!

Lastly the vocals are divine, the perfect to compliment this brutal album. I'm a big fan of vocals that sound like they really hurt to sing, i'm a singer and I've pushed myself to the brink of pain several times, I think that's what it takes to get a good effort put forth. I hate when jack asses try to last to the end of the song, rather than see how close to ripping your throat out you can get. If you are singing in a metal band you need to make sure that your throat is going to hurt as much as possible, that's just common sense.

Overall this album like I said before is a thrashy, speedy, black metal thrash fest like you've never heard before.
