Taunusheim - Nebelkämpfe

Black metal fans want immortal to sound like this - 80%

Scapulla, July 12th, 2014
Written based on this version: 2005, CD, Schwarzdorn Production (Enhanced)

Taunusheim's main founder Patrick Kuntz is the owner of the metal label Schwarzdorn Production. I've owned multiple releases by that label and by all means they all truly did suck. Although, Patrick managed to release his first full-length album under Taunusheim. Nebelkämpfe is the best release Schwarzdorn Production has ever made; the funny thing is that it's his own freaking release. Taunusheim play viking/black metal but it it's obvious why these guys never got a chance of fame. If you think of any famous viking band at the moment, they usually sing about getting drunk or just anything that makes the fans think that they're not very serious with their lyrics. Taunusheim with their pagan lyrics can get on people's nerves. With the black metal side of Taunusheim; they remind me of Immortal. The video clip that comes with the album shows the band members playing in the snow - still don't believe they're similar?

The melodies on Nebelkämpfe are not necessarily just folky; they're even symphonic at times. The riffs are your typical distorted black metal riffs. I'm not going to lie, there are no special riffs valid here because it's mostly chugging that is used in viking metal. If you hear Nebelkämpfe; you'll notice straight away it doesn't sound like an album. Each song is like two songs in one. There's usually no vocals until two minutes into the song. Again, it's not a problem because that's how the viking metal genre is known as being different to any other genre. The music matters more than the actual vocals. Most viking metal vocalists suck but it's the music that makes us love it deeply. Patrick's vocals consist of black metal shrieks very similar to Immortal's Abbath which have no harm on the album whatsoever. Immortal are an absolute joke of a band; I blame bands like them as the reason why black metal has a bad reputation. Taunusheim tend to care and share the message of their grandfathers and ancestors; so this project is taken very seriously by them. It's just that no one really gives a fuck about them nor their origins.

You either love or hate this album. I personally love it because it reminds me of how a label owner can sound better than every fucking band that's signed to his label. What a joke, right? Highly recommended to any viking/black metal fan especially if you're Thyrfing fan.
