Soilwork - Stabbing the Drama

A Waste of Talent - 43%

mrsbrightside, December 23rd, 2006

I discovered this CD after listening to „A Predator’s Portrait” and I was curious what the new album is about. So I first listened to the single- CD “Stabbing the drama”. I have to say, I was rather disappointed when I listened to the first song and the new direction and style they stepped into. I still like Sid’s clean voice very much and it really makes every song unique.

But what’s with all the screaming? Haven’t we heard enough songs where his voice just doesn’t fit the instrumental parts? Talking about the instrumental work, I think, it was even more disappointing than the vocals. I mean, what happened to the amazing instrumental structure and breath-taking guitarsolos? I also thought this band had magical fingers when it comes to timing and precision, but this song doesn’t have any of the old Soilwork power.

I already had known “Asylum Dance” from the album “A Predator’s Portrait” and it proves again, that Soilwork can make high quality songs. It features the technically proficient guitar work to which we were used to on earlier Soilwork albums.

Still, I think that this single is an overall disappointment and not a good sign of Soilwork's future.
