Summers End - Summer's End

A powerful debut - 93%

eerietom, January 27th, 2005

I remember in late 2002, I was at the Gotham Road.com link section. I came across a band called SUMMERS END. I clicked the link, not knowing but to expect. On the site, was a demo for a song called Long Time Dead. After hearing it, I was amazed. Everything was blended together perfectly. Amazing drumming, combinded with riffs all over the fretboard, and loud, crazy, but awesome vocals. I was amazed. As time went on, no news for an album really happend. I lost hope. In about October, 2004, I visited their MySpace, and it said the album would be out January 11th 2005.

Summers End is not your average metalcore band. They are extremely influenced by horror movies and the Horror Rock scene. The funny thing is, their musicianship is not of that. Picture Iron Maiden guitar riffs combined with some black metal riffs on speed, mixed with amazing drumming and double bass attacks on speed. To top it all off, add screaming amazing vocals by Josh, and you got your self an amazing album. The songs lyrics are written almost poetically, none campy nor funny. These lyrics are serious, thought provoken ones. Through all 9 tracks (3 live) , you are told about tales of terror, death, and suicide. On track 6 , Headwound, the band brings friend Michale Graves (of Misfits, Gotham Road fame) on to do vocals. The song seems to be about somebody stuck in the middle of a firefight, an assasin it seems; against his superiors, or subjects he must kill. The last 3 tracks, are live ones. I take it they did not have time to do studio versions , so they released live soundboard recordings of them. You can tell how talented they are live too. All 5 play extremly tight, and they work the crowd up too, starting circle pits, and crazy moshes.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, these guys are a band to look out for in 2005. They are extremely talented, and know what music is all about. If you stumble upon this release in a music store, buy it; because from my experience, it is very hard to come by.
