Darkemist - Mindseek

So BAD it makes nu-metal seem HEAVY - 2%

MikeBelial, January 27th, 2006

Darkemist have been around since 1995. After their Black Blood demo in 1999, Mindseek is their debut effort. These guys are considered Melodic Death Metal, but that is a massively improper categorization. Really what they are is watered down thrash/hardcore in the vein of Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, and Trivium. The music is a forgettable mix of heard-it-before galloping guitars, quick solos, annoying double bass, bass guitar that is non-existent, and vocal’s that sound hardcore pussy. Even the harmonized guitar is terrible. Every song bleeds into the next with repetition. These guys ripped off the killer elements of thrash bands like Overkill, Metallica, Testament, Anthrax, and Forbidden. Then they attempted to mix it with modern Thrash-core tripe to create a sound that falls far short of unique. I get the impression that the guys in Darkemist have day jobs that suck and their intention in creating “Mindseek” was a half-assed attempt at ca$hing in on the current popularity of the Metal-core craze that is going on in mainstream Metal. During the recording they where probably having visions of touring on Ozzfest where they could rake in the ca$h, score teen groupies, and get a record deal with a major label. Instead, this disc can be found in the bottom of my trash can along with Trivium, Shadows Fall, Hatebreed, and all the other poser Metal bands.
