Ghoulunatics - King of the Undead

Predictability 101 - 22%

DeadFetus, October 27th, 2002

According to the Ghoulunatics bio sheet, they are a band that should be seen live. Apparently up until this recording they hadn't been able to capture their live energy. If this CD captures the live sound, then I really don't think they have much to brag about.

The brand of "horror groove metal" the Ghoulunatics play isn't scary and the grooves are tiring. The riffs and percussion are generic, the lyrics are unoriginal, the band just sounds like they are bored. Each song starts with some lame soundbyte from some boring movie, the clips seem to foreshadow the music pretty well.

Each song sounds roughly the same, some might be a little slower or faster, but they are all boring and use the same formula. In my book no variety = crappy album, I cannot stand a band that uses the same method for every single song for an entire album! It really doesn't get much worse than this.
