Carnal Diafragma - Carnal Diafragma / Ulcerrhoea

Desolate Grind Core/ Hilarious Grind Gore - 100%

optimuszgrime, March 7th, 2008

This is one of those split releases that did not make it back into its cardboard slipcase for several weeks after I obtained it. I do not know if it is still available or not, but it is worth buying on vinyl, for a digital version of this would kill the sound, unless ripped by a very clever sound engineer. The imagery of the split is awesome, the Ulcerrhoea side has this picture of a man crumbled into his won hands, presumably distressed or on the verge of a nervous breakdown, form the looks of it. It is silk screened and thus looks distant faded and just right for furious, desolate alienating grind core that these guys play. The Carnal Diafragma side has a picture of a bar from the future with gore and porn all over the place.

I have to say both sides of the split are perfect musically and sonically speaking. Ulcerrhoea play some of their best songs on here, and with a more furious sound then on the ‘Line And Row’ release, of which most of these songs are on. It is a little rawer, but really just more accentuated. Their side of the split is also on the 4 way between them, Los Rezios, Beer System and Solitary Neglect.

The Carnal Diafragma side captures a very good time in the band’s life, and the three tracks contain everything that makes this Czech gore band awesome. It includes the insane cricket vocals of the singer, the awesome blast beats, the outer worldly vocal distortion, and the grinding guitar and groovy as hell bass lines we love them for. The singer also does pop music vocals on one of the tracks for fun, but they end up sounding really fucking crazy for some reason. The music is also very good, and some of these songs did not make it on to other releases, so it is worth buying for both sides of the split, an achievement few grind core 7’’ records can say about themselves.
