Nokturnal Mortum - Eleven Years Among the Sheep

Eleven Years of Great Black Metal - 95%

Bahajinbo, April 5th, 2006

If you haven't got any albums of Nokturnal Mortum and want to listen to the musical change in the last years, I recommend this one.
On this collection we have rare songs of their Suppuration-time (Death Metal), of their first demos and some live-songs.
Track 1-4 of the first CD are some old Death metal songs, expect of the strange intro the other 3 songs are OK.
Track 5-10 are old Black Metal Songs before the Lunar Poetry demo and you really can recognize the melodies of songs like "Celestial Silver" or "... And Winter Becomes". Not as good as the demo tracks but still great.
11-13 are three songs of the Lunar Poetry demo. Great quality and great melodic Black Metal.
The next two tracks are songs of the very popular Goat Horns album.
After I've listened to the Lunar Poetry I was very surprised about the musical skills of Nokturnal Mortum at this album. Kolyada and Unholy Orathania are a very good choice.
I didn't knew the two following tracks (the first one is from the Marble Moon EP) but these are also good but not as great as the Lunar Poetry and Goat Horns tracks.

The first two tracks of the second CD are from the album "To the Gates of Blasphemous Fire" which is the one album I don't like very much.
Still the choice isn't bad and the tracks are well selected. These two tracks don't have many melodic points.
The next four tracks are the best on the second CD, I think. They are from the NeChrist album and are all great. In my opinion Black Raven is the best of the four NeChrist-Tracks, but every track of these 4 masterpieces represents the skills of Nokturnal Mortum.
7-10 are the live tracks which I didn't listened to very much. But I think the choice of the tracks are well selected.
The last track is the slavic version of Weltanschauung, one of my favourite tracks of Nokturnal Mortum. Here you can see the difference between the older songs and the new style. But I like the new music, too.

Nationalistic Black Metal listeners, I recommend this album to you.
