Warhorn - Expanded Holocaust

Armageddon? This way! - 80%

Valmor, February 14th, 2007

Warhorn, the finnish black metal warmachine is a gem for metalheads who search for the ultimate aggression of world war’s terror, spiced with hateful semi-high pitched warhungry vocals, headkicking drumwork and a small amount of catchy melodies. Expanded Holocaust, the latest effort from theirs, is truly a gem of underground war black metal, ranging from slower tempos to extremely insane blastbeating. A pity that as skillful band as this stands still unsigned.

The three tracks that the demo brings to destroy your ears bring forth chaos and mayhem in vein of Deströyer 666 like armageddon warfare, with the destructional sounds reminding the swedish Necrophobic and Fall ov Serafim. The guitar sound sounds as if it would’ve been recorded with full marshall stack, with the highest volume level. Bass has a good and thick distortion, while the drum sound is left very basic. The songs themselves are all equally excellent, but I’d still raise the last one called ‘Napalm Jesus’ over the others. Its quite cliché, but catchy chorus is a nice thing to yell in the streets for jehova witnesses. "Napalm Jesus, you are just a target... Napalm Jesus, target of desecration!"

The smell of napalm - 85%

Killercult, November 28th, 2005

Warhorn plays rough, dirty and aggressive black metal with loads of napalm smell in their songs. The songs aren't extremely fast, but they really do sound extremely mean. The subject is war and their music fits in well with all of it's aggression.

The title track, which is the first song on the album, isn't anything special, but when Nuklear War Command comes in this demo fires up it's worth. Great lead parts, a wacky chorus, cool guitar riffs and excellent shrieking from Vulture. Nearly the top song of the demo, but the best is still coming...

...since there still is the nearly comically named track Napalm Jesus coming. This song has got some balls! Verse is grooving with steady double bass drumming and riffs that cut like razors. Chorus is a very sing along one, believe it or not...

These guys really deserve a recording deal, labels ohoy!
