Divercia - Cycle of Zero

Pretty good, but doesn't live up to Modus Operandi - 85%

Divercia's second album isn't too bad but just cannot compete with Modus Operandi. They start out with a fast paced song called Of Steel and Man, which has more of their harsher lyrics they ended their previous album with. You can still hear a little of their softer voice there too though. Divercia just doesn't seem to be too great with introductions. Next it moves to Iron Hearted Cross, which brings back their better vocals. It has a pretty fast tempo and I think that kinda makes the vocals not sound as good as they could, but its not a bad song. Skipping ahead to the title track, Cycle of Zero has a different sound than the previous tracks, and sounds pretty nice. The music blends nicely with the vocalist, who appearantly was trying out his regular singing voice, instead of the screaming thing and instead of the vocals that put Divercia so high on my list. After this they start to sound more like they did in later Modus Operandi.

The album gets better and better from this point on, but never quite achieves the beautiful sound Modus Operandi does. It does provide an interesting mix of their harsher lyrical style (which I strongly dislike) and their more smooth gothic sound. The lyrics in this album often sound kinda hurried by the faster tempo a lot of the songs have. The actual music sounds just as good as it always does. They seem to have more pauses in the lyrics that allow the listener to fully appreciate the music behind them. This is one of the things about Cycle of Zero I do like. I reccomend this album to any fan of Divercia, but I think that new listeners should hear Modus Operandi first just because they sound better in it.
