Modern Suck-y-ness - 52%

Danthrax_Nasty, October 20th, 2005

I bought this for 8$, used and on cd. After a few spins my direct conclusion is that I want my money back.

First off, this band is labeled "Power Metal",... I disagree, by the contents of this cd I would label them as a precursor, and then part of the "Modern Metal" sound (which is a terrible thing to be in my mind, just for those who need clarity). Yeah, there might be elements of thrash, power, and maybe even a little Heavy Metal touch, but as a whole sound, this is nothing, but crap. Its actually kind of weird, as this is a greatest hits spaning a handfull of years, and yet it seems like every song has the same overall feel of modern suckyness, creating very little on anyone track which is not replicated in other songs with very little change. I'm really quite unimpressed with the out put of these musicians.

The vocalist sucks,... badly. When I think "Power Metal", I dont think dull, modern, no-range (there are a couple ok higher wails) vocals which showcase half ass talent being exploited in the name of Metal. The singer also offers little to each track independently, as on each song (even off of different albums) he gives a highly similiar delivery, with unfortunitly few exceptions.

The riffs (?), well, they are rather simplistic, and in some parts modernly disgusting (when considered people call this "Power Metal"). Not that every riff sucks completely, but there are alot of parts which are bastardly boring, agitating in their delivery, and basically make for a less then thrilling listening experience. Also, there are alot of parts of various songs which have the exact same tempo, delivery, and build up (this disc is highly repetitive). The bass stands out rarely, not much to be said.

The drums are performed decent enough, rather unstand-outish, but decent enough. They also offer another area in which I can find disappointment. It almost seems like the exact same beats are used plentifully through out this disc. Just endlessly repeating itself, and even when the tempo rises they still offer nothing but generic ideas. Also, it seems theres just something about the drums I'm not to fond of, but I cant place my finger on it, probably just the timbre.

There really arent any songs on here that I could say are stand out tracks. Every song seems to just blend into the next, and I'm barely the wiser, as almost every song sounds like the previous in too many ways. There are a couple cool little parts in a few songs, but overall... its weak here.

Over all, I'm disappointed, and of the opinion this album/band sucks. I gave it the score it got because of the thought that it may not offer much, but as a whole it could be much much worse.
