Pink Cream 69 - Electrified

Has Its Moments, But is Often Disappointing - 70%

PowerProg_Adam, April 10th, 2003

This is an extremely talented Progressive Power metal band, but at times their songs sound very "poppy" and uninspiring. The instrumentation is nearly flawless, but the singing is sometimes annoying and a few of the songs are simply not metal.

The main reason why this album has a decent rating is because Shame is an absolutely amazing song. IMO it is probably the strongest vocal performance of the album and contains the most driving chorus as well.

Stranger in Time is a rather catchy song, but the vocals do sound sort of weak at points here. I do generally like this song, and it is listenable at least.

Burn Your Soul is almost the exact opposite of Stranger in Time. The instrumentation could be a bit better, but the vocals here are outstanding. I don't know why the singer can't do it all the time.

Rocket Ride and Best for You are definately not metal songs. I personally believe that they could have been put on an 80s hair metal band's album and would have done extremely well, but these two tracks have very little substance.

Gone Again is a very nice ballad, it does have a bit cheesy lyrics, but its still very soulful. The bonus version of this about a minute and a half after the song ends is simply hilarious, sounds like Spinal Tap with the Engish accent and all.

Electrified is a pretty decent album, but I'd recommend buying DC Cooper's solo album instead, the problem of weak vocals is solved there, but the band of Pink Cream 69 remains intact. The songs are a bit catchier as well.
