Decieverion - Despondent

Good Continuation of Previous Work - 80%

Star-Gazer, May 5th, 2012

Side "A" features the self-titled song. It starts off rather slow and doomy. Not very entertaining to me, actually rather boring. For the first half of the song I was wondering what had happened to the Decieverion I liked so much on their previous release. I realize they used doom elements on that album as well, but this is just boring.

Boy was I proven wrong. At about 3:40 the song really takes off. The catchy riffs, great drumming and evil sound I expected from Decieverion. The rest of this song really is great – I love Cazz Grant’s drumming and the guitarwork.

The song on the flip side is entitled “By Her Dark Caress.” It may actually be my favorite Deceiverion song, eclipsing “Siren Song Confessions” found on their self-titled album. This song has both mid-paced and fast parts; the mid-paced parts being my favorite. There is also a guitar solo with some distortion which fits the song well.

I also want to add I love the vocals.

This album is a direct continuation of the work found on their self-titled EP – in fact both of these songs would have fit nicely on that prior album.

If you are already a Deceverion fan, pick this up without a doubt. If you are looking for an album to pick up, try the self-titled EP first.
