Epilepsia - Thrash Again

Thrash En EspaƱol - 90%

Apocryphalist, June 23rd, 2007

Epilepsia delivers thrash in the vein of Destruction with the added progressive approach and melodic breaks. The album on its own is the most consistent thrash release of the late '90's and the new millennium offerings and easily rivals the best of new thrash, The Antichrist by Destruction being the most notorious reference.

The amount of riffs is outstanding and the tone is sharp and biting, enhanced by consistent drumming true to the best of the genre. One particular mention goes to the inclusion of Spanish lyrics instead of the English ones that many South American and European bands have employed since the early days. It is rather unusual to hear the vocalist's venomous attack enforce the construction of the language opposed to the most common one, giving it an unexpected twist despite the fact that one can't understand most of the words because of how thrash vocalists of the extreme end of the spectrum employ their voices (Devastation, Morbid Saint, Gammacide, Sabbat, Dark Angel, Slayer, and Megadeth for those as English as their first language).

In conclusion, this is a complete thrash record that's complex, fast, aggressive, focused, and true to its identity.
