The Beast - Fixed by the Devil

Where are the guitars? I want the guitars! - 55%

Vuurgeest, November 30th, 2006

I bought this EP because of the attractive cover art, unfortunately, thats the only really attractive thing on the disc.

In most songs, either the drums or the guitars are too soft to hear well. The athmosphere is right, which is important to me, but the production is just wrong, not too bad, wrong. Bad production never bothers me much, but this record feels as if they just weren't trying. The instruments are played well enough, though theres very little variation.

The vocals are ok, very basic black metal growls without anything new or refreshing, they could've put a little more effort into them. They use some fairly interesting effects on the vocals in some songs, but nothing special and its just not interesting enough to complement the music.

To sum it all up, this EP is a decent try, but it feels as if there hasn't been enough effort and emotion put into it. My advice would be to buy a better record instead, its not bad, but you can do a lot better with your money. Highlights of the EP are the first and last songs on the B-side(I don't know if this has been released as a cd too, if so, just check which songs I'm talking about on the vinyl sleeve somewhere)
