Horde of Worms - The Uncreation

Canadian Blast Metal - 89%

BassLord, November 24th, 2005

Or at least that's what they condider themselves. On The Uncreation, Canadian duo Horde of Worms, create an album of unrelenting brutality, that also manages to work in a good amount of melody and creativity.

After a peaceful acoustic intro, the track "Burning Horizon" sets the stage with ultra fast, brutal guitar riffs, growling vocals, and almost non-stop blast beats. This is a formula, that much of this album adheres to, however, admist the chaos, there are usually faint traces of melody, which make the album overall a much more entertaining listen.

The band also works in occasional acoustic guitar interludes, which contrast well against the bands overall viscious approach. Take the track "Interlude" for example which harkens back to classical, spanish guitar music, and also showcases the two guitarists diverse influences. Also, since this track is in the middle of the album, it provides a nice break from the brutality.

Rythmically, this album is almost always at full speed, with occasional slower parts and breakdowns. The drums, which are provided by a drum machine, rarely stray from blast beats, but change just enough to prevent monotony.

All things taken into consideration, this is an awesome album, fast and heavy enough to please even the most brutal of metalheads, but also diverse enough to satisfy those looking for metal with a little more substance. I highly reccomend picking this album up, that is if you can actually track down a copy. After all, the band is on BloodBucket Productions.
