Magnanimus - Unchaining the Fever and the Plagues

Promising Chilean brutal death metal - 65%

Cronos12390, December 22nd, 2007

Magnanimus refer to their music as "INFERNAL DEATH BLASTING METAL!!!!" on their homepage. Not quite sure what exactly that should sound like, but I'm quite certain that this is what this demo of their's provides. Sound quality is such that I only had to adjust the equalization of my speakers and my WinAmp slightly for it to be coherent, which is good.

This demo is fairly heavy and vicious, with plenty of blast beats (Far too loud in the mix for my tastes, but whatever), quick riffs (They sound a lot like Morbid Angel meets Nile), and some low vocals kind of like David Vincent and a less guttural Lord Worm around the Blasphemy Made Flesh period. The drums and guitars wind up in that competition for audibility, but really the hardest thing to make out is a bass.

What amazes me is that none of these songs made it onto their debut album, as they're all a good deal better than what's on the debut.
