Vicious Rumors - Something Burning

It works! - 90%

After Carl Albert died, the fate of Vicious Rumors was a thing of uncertainty. Although Geoff swore not to pack it in and to continue on ensuring that the spirit of Carl lived forever, you just know that this traumatic time must have been a spiritual crusher for Geoff and his band.
Anyway, and so the band did carry on...but who were they going to find as a new vocalist? Many fans including myself were quite surprised when word got out that Geoff would be handling all the vocals on the album. I was totally unprepared for what I was about to hear. And what I heard was...a new, heavier and darker sounding Vicious Rumors. Geoff's voice fit with the new material like a hand in a velvet glove. The funny thing is...he's not just average, he's a fuckin' great singer! who would have ever guessed...on top of being a wizard on the guitar, the guy is just a musical genius I guess.
Anyway, this album definately marks a turning point in the bands style. What was once a power metallish style of band was now more driven by a Thrashy groove sound. Downtuned guitars, tons of double bass and angry sounding back-up "riot" vocals. If this sounds nu-metal by comparison then you're understanding my analogy. Think somewhere in between Pantera meets Exhorder, meets Meliah Rage. Yeah that sounds about right.
As with all Vicious Rumors releases, its not really necessary to detail every song, since there never are any weak songs to be found. Every song is kick ass...some better than others, but they're all fuckin' good
If you've only heard VR's earlier material and were not impressed, try this album out...its totally different and truly awesome.
Once again, if for nothing else you must aquire this album simply for the guitaring. The shredding never ends with these guys!
