this came from a Punk band?!! - 96%

And with the rumbling sounds of nuclear holocaust, Dr.Know’s last album begins. Totally unexpected thrash metal from a band that was only “known” on the hardcore circuit, Dr.Know released “Wreckage in Flesh” in 1988. This can be best described as a loose concept album, the story of the Master Mind and the earth’s untimely demise. Totally unique in style and execution, Wreckage in Flesh is truly a “lost classic” that still holds up astoundingly well today.

War Theater starts off as a highly unique thrasher. Right away you will notice Kyle Toucher’s unique voice. It has been described as sounding like one of the insecticons from the old Transformer cartoons. In any any case at 3:12 the tempo shifts to a slightly slower pace, to show case Toucher’s unique voice. It only last for thirty seconds though, than suddenly the song ends. 7/10

Wreckage features a nice chorus and nice guitar work. Check out the solo at 2:26. Excellent. 7/10

Master Mind is the “centerpiece” of the album. Starting with a plodding doom riff that perfectly conveys the drudgery and crushing weight of the “Master Mind” Toucher’s voice really is put to excellent use here. I can not imagine any one else in the freaking world singing this as well as it’s done here. At 2:45 the pace picks up considerably leading up to the echoed chorus. This song is one of the best on here. 10/10

Lake of Fire, again, features some great lyrics Then at 1:45 the pace picks up again that will crush your eardrums Did I mention how terrific the vocals are already? 7/10

Coming, RUUUNNING, RUSHHHHING like waves is the beginning lyrics to this thrasher, called” Slice of Life”. You really get that this guy is running from the New World Order monolith that will crush us all .This one is full of nasty ,laser like. Sci-fi riffs. Innovative and catchy as hell . 8/10

City Wheels may be the hidden gem, as the song can be best described as doom, with an otherworldly feel .when Toucher starts the song with JUSSSST MIGHT LOSE MYYY MIIIIND”, You believe it. I can’t stress how cool the lyrics and vocals are. Sort of like black metal, except he has much better tone and inflection than your run of the mill black metal. This one covey’s the singer’s desperate hopelessness. Unbelievable melancholy, haunting, yet ball crushing solos on this. Actually, the last three minutes of this song are a terrific instrumental. Unbelievable. 9/10.

Rise will indeed cause you to ‘rise’ , Rise up and smash something that is. A fairly short song that again uses Toucher’s voice and the futuristic guitar tone to great affect. A winner. 10/10.

No one , and I mean NO ONE has ever covered Black Sabbath’s Into the Void as well as Dr.Know. Not Exhorder, Not Monster Magnet. Not even the almighty Kyuss have done this song as well as Dr.Know. In all actuality it even surpasses the original. Also it fits perfectly with the rest of the album and that may have been their intent. Brilliant. 10/ 10.

The last track I think is about Satan and is kina silly. Overall, fans of metal would be remiss to ignore this. Do your self a favor and check this out.
