Diamanthian - Orchestrated Violence

aural violent reaction - 95%

AtteroDeus, October 14th, 2004

Now, to be perfectly honest, Diamanthian first come to my attention as a result of them winning the Best Unsigned Act in Terrorizer Magazine a few years back, but I never bothered to get round to checking anything of theirs out.

I've finally have, and my god, this band need signing, if for nothing more than to prove that there are fucking good new extreme metal bands still coming out of the UK that aren't resorting to either playing grind or a retro style (ie Mick Kenney).

The overwhelming thing that's clear with this demo is how mindblowingly fucking brutal, and ergo HUGE, this band have the massive potential to be.

Hell, Incantation saw it.

My only personal quibbles with these songs is to do with the above mentioned thing.
I know it's a demo and the production is never going to be amazingly Neil Kernon-esque, but when you consider that Enes Senussi hasn't got a state of the art Auslander-esque studio kit to fall back on he's still done a sterling job, it's just....
well to put it another way, it's so tantilisingly close to how you'd want it to sound on record, that I guess you're slightly maligned about it not being the kind of ultra-tight technical Krisiun-style production job, but that will come in time. Or till someone donates a huge heft of money to the more than capable Mr Senussi.

Music wise?
Now I've always seen "brutal death metal" as a genre as vague as practically any other metal label, what with bands as varying as Kataklysm, Incantation, and Hate being labelled "brutal death metal". Bearing those three (and more) in mind when I first listened to Diamanthian's songs, I have to admit it took me by surprise how non-generic & formulaeic sounding these songs are.... Just when you think you know right where the song is going, there's something new thrown into the mix to not so much throw you off track but to enhance the listening experience.

Overall damn fucking good. I predict immense things for this band in the future.

If you're reading this review and you're not a moderator waiting to approve it, you'll either already know of Diamanthian or at the very least be curious about them.

Trust me. As soon as this band get signed, people will be claiming to have been into them since before they "made it". I quite happily, as late to the party as always, can say that at least in my case that's true.
