Squash Bowels - No Mercy

The return of the Polish goregrind kings! - 88%

Spawnhorde, April 4th, 2004

This album proves that Poland's Squash Bowels still have it in them after such a period of time to create some of the catchiest, kickass grind ever. This album is no exception to their formula for extremely fast and technically proficient goregrind. The album is 14 tracks, most of which are between 1 to 3 minutes, excepting the first and last track. Throughout this time, though, Squash Bowels have managed to cram some of the craziest shit ever onto one album. The sounds on this album are much more thrashy and developed than on 'The Mass Rotting...The Mass Sickening'. Drums are tighter, although I don't like the blastbeats on this album as much (maybe because there aren't many sections of pure blastbeats), but this will please some of the newer people into grind, who hate blasting for 3 minutes and calling it a song. The bass on this album is audible in some songs, and adds a bit to the signature SB groove we came to know and love on their second full-length. The guitar tone is pretty much abysmal while the drums and vocals are going, but there are some nice ACTUAL RHYTHM SECTIONS. See the song "Squabble" for some nice mid-song riffage. Now I'd have to say most of the songs DO sound alike, and that might put off some people, but there ios just enough pure fucking grind here to blow most fans of brutal death, etc. out of the water. The vocals on this album are a bit cleaner than on 'TMR...TMS', but they are still altered with a pitch-shifter, and there are some VERY NICE screamy parts. Best songs are "Splinter Off Blood", "Vulture Ritual", "Squabble", and "Face In Cowpox". If you like any grind at all, then you'd have to be a fucking idiot not to pick this up.
