Forest of Fog - Rabenflug

This is amazing! - 94%

I had heard some good things about this band, so I decided to check them out. I wasn't really sure which album to listen to first, so I downloaded this demo first, simply because it had the best average score. Not knowing what to expect, I pressed play and then WOW. The beauty of the "Intro" surprised me. How often do you hear something like that? Sounds of rain and birds in the background, with a beautiful, soft piano on front. Not really original, but effective. Unfortunately, the intro is too short. But when you follow it with such an amazing track like "Schwertes Blut", this flaw is immediately forgotten.

All the songs here (except the intro) have the same formula. Melodic black metal riffs, simple drumming and non-existent bass. No vocals either, but they aren't missed. All the tracks are about 5, 6 minutes long, and those are 5, 6 minutes of pure brilliance. The pianos that appeared on the intro return on the beginning of "Walking The Endless Path" and at the end of "Rabenflug". Seriously, I love the black metal side of the demo, but there should be more piano. Anyway, the black metal elements are great too. There is a lot of tremolo picking, and some acoustic passages. As I said before, this is a very melodic demo, and that helps to keep it fresh all the way through. The production is raw, but good enough to hear the difference between each riff and song.

All songs are great, but the highlights are "Schwertes Blut" and "Rabenflug". Specially the title track, with amazing riffs and a beautiful ending with the piano. I recommend this to everyone that likes black metal with melody (not like Nokturnal Mortum or Kroda; more like early Summoning). Like I said in the title, this is amazing.
