Thalion - Another Sun

Great musicians, that's all - 63%

deniscoelho, June 18th, 2005

What we can't understand is why this band has so much media. The band isn't creative, isn't heavy and don't have any great historical. The musicians are excelent, specially the guitar players and the singer is a really beautiful girl with a bautiful voice and great tonal reach. But they are just that and nothing more.

The album starts with a nice intro but then comes a song that don't respond the intro, breaks the good rythm, a guitar misplaced and a power metal beat that will not lead them anywhere. This is the kind of the band that wants to appear to the world fast. The third song you can listen the same thing as the previous, they are always using the Intro-verse-chorus-solo-chorus formula. There are some good songs, like The Journey and the raw melodic metal from Another Sun. In some songs they try to do a prog break or an instrumental part, but they really fail in that aspect, they try to do a Dream Theater part but they just can't create something beautiful, marking and difficult part at the same time. The last song, The Encouter, is a ballad and has the unexpected duet of Alexandra and Michael Kiske (???), i don't know what why he is in this band when he said that he would never sing metal again.

The lack of creativity of this band comes from the young guitarrist Rodrigo Vinhas, he is a nice guitar player but not a nice composer, his solos are always fast and poor just showing that he can play. The vocals are good, Alexandra Liambos really have and can show feelings in the songs. The Drums (Gian Scairato) and the Bass (David Shalom) are always doing the same thing, they look to don't have freedom to do what they want or they just can't do it.

As I said, they are not all bad, there are some good songs and a lot more bad songs, but they are just great musicians and nothing more...

Great Debut Album - 85%

The Newcomers are not so bad as one would think when cheking the band for the first time. Their first album, and they already have André Matos ( ex-Angra ) and Michales Kiske, not only an ex helloween, but also a metal icon, plus, if they made kiske sang in a metal album, after saying that we would never go back to the metal scene, well, there must be something about Thalion.
Alexandra Liambos, great vocals and amazing leading face for a group. Excelent job made by drumer Gian Scairato. Guitars are also neat and the bass, unlike many other groups, is acctually notisable.
The Album starts with a nice intro, followed by a really cool song, that makes you wanna continuing to listen the rest of the CD, and we move on to the nest song...Show me the Answers, a masterpeace of only 03:47 minutes long.
The rest of the album goes on smoothly, very power, techincal metal with gourgeous vocals, great rythm and very catchy songs.
Life is a poetry, is a great example of the beautyfull voice of Alexandra and the song with Michael Kiske is a really cool to listen balad.
