Chainsaw - Chainsaw Is the Law

Holland attacks! - 87%

Chainsaw is one hell of a band, this heavy / speed / thrash mixture they play is what heavy metal is all about! And these are two damn convincing songs...

On side Hell (!) we have "Chainsaw (is the law)" wich is in my opinion already a classic thrash song. It sounds mainly like Destruction, with some more heavy touches especially on the refrain. And also great lyrics. Not something brilliant, the usual "we defend heavy metal lyrics", but they actually convince you, this doesn't sound bad at all! And the whole song is actually very memorable, not to mention the nice solo.

Side Yeah (!!!) contains the "Heavy Sex Maniac" song, a track equally divided between heavy metal and thrash, with both nice riffs and melodies, again in the Destruction vein, but surely not a rip-off. But neither a filler for side b!

This 7" EP is worth its money, songs like "Chainsaw is the Law" don't come up every day!

First of all, I think this record needs a few listens to really get into it. The first track sounds slightly “hollow” but you get used to it pretty swiftly and the second track is notably better.

If you know the band before buying this you might be a bit disapointed by the vocals, they sound far less powerful than the bands live performances. Chainsaw is more of a live band than a studio band, this disk is still worth picking up if you come across it though, especially since it only costs 3,50 in euros.

The guitars are nice and thrashy, and they can really get you in the right mood for violating your neck and skull. You never get the idea you are listening to a classic, but the instruments are played fairly well and the songs are catchy enough to stay in your head for a while, or even to sing along to after your second listen(can you imagine yourself sitting in front of your recordplayer going “Chainsaw, is the law!”?)

All in all, “Chainsaw is the Law” is a good start for a really cool band.
