Barbaric Art - 80%

Danthrax_Nasty, May 18th, 2004

On a whole, this album ranges from string instrumentals/tracks with talking, winds, metallic sounds, and basically a good deal more effects that are placed within the songs structure that highly add the their ambient quality, and blackend hatefull metal with odd effects lightly throwen in. This is pure NSBM, with song titles like, "We Come, You Will Spew With Blood You Jewish Bastards", and on the back inlay this title, "Elite Of The Aryan Black Metal Art", not to mention this band is pretty well known for the style they play. As far as the riffage used on here there is a fair amount of radomness, in that alot of different sounding riffs are used, and the fact that a small chunk of the album is solely ambient string music.

The guitar work is the real highlight. Mixing thrash influenced riffs with a very classic black metal approach, adding keyboard elements, and creating a great overall sound this album is worth a listen.

The third song (the title track) is the first you hear of the full band on this, and is a good departure from the first two tracks which are entirely ambient tracks. Picking up on the fourth song quit a bit, the intro riff is total Barbaric Black Metal in the old school vein (reminding me of a less produced Cult Of Daath). Containing keys also, not to mention some odd howling effects when the song slows drasticly, but shortly, and has one hell of a killer feel, even if the sound quality is less then perfect.

On the 5th song it goes back into an ambient type sound, with effects and strings, and even some skin bashing (drum) that keeps a beat as the great synth work shines.

The sixth track gets back into the bands great old school sound, with some black thrashing fucking mayhem tossed in, that you could easily bang your head and raise your aryan horns up too. Keyboard elements are here, but tastefully done.

The 7th track opens up with a bell being banged on, and then into the albums best song (IMO), and bands full sound. Slightly thrashy, but more so straight black metal, this song has a great feel that in ways is strongly epic. I think the guitar tone really shines on this track (also on the 8th) with the keys, and creating a great melody structure, even if a bit repetitve in some areas, but when the song picks up, and the drums start blasting with the guitars speed picking an arpagiated riff, awesomeness is heard.

When the 8th song comes in with some odd effects, and then starts blasting you are still highly entertained. A great sounding clean bass line is present in some areas and really has a strong, present sound on this track, not really a highlight cause there are many great aspects, but note worthy. Great riffing on this track, the last blasting BM track, some what completes the album well. Ending with an explosion type effect, and then going into the outro which is very different from anything heard thus far on the album. Spoken words, animal barking, random wierd sounds, and some dark synth work make this a great way to end an awesome album.

I should also note that the instrumentals on here are predominently slow, dark, and brooding, but highly enjoyable. Well done, mixing a large amount of elements these tracks are an odd departure from the full on black assaulght, but in many ways fitting.

This is Polish NSBM, and damn fine metal at that. Obviously not for all, but for the select few this should be sought out. The vocals are great through out the album, and have subtle unique characteristics (kinda indescribable). The drums maintain a raw underproduced sound, but are clearly present in the mix. I think a variating synth sound on the full band tracks would have helped this album a bit, but detracts little from the overall feel. Not much more needs be said other than this is a good album.
