Destruktor - Nuclear Storm

The sequel band to Destroyer 666? - 92%

DYNAROUGE, December 7th, 2007

Recently I was shopping around online, looking for EPs to order, and this one came recommended, so I got it. I've got to say, it was worth every penny. The perfect blend of black, death and war metal all coming together to form this short but concise EP. Plus, this band has [or did have] past members from DESTROYER 666, how can you go wrong?

The riffs are thrashy but crunchy and solid enough to keep them from being over the top, the bass for the most part is copying the guitar, but that's fine because it just makes the melody loads heavier. The vocals show a strong BM influence, not much range is shown because this release is so short, but nonetheless the vocalist does have noticeable talent. The drumming is your standard blastbeats for the most part, but it works well with this band because it ties all the sounds together.

While it's not essential by any means, it's an excellent release, and fans of DESTROYER 666, HAVOHEJ and other similar bands should AT LEAST download this, if not buy it.

My verdict: I really, really wish this band would produce a full length.

Today's Forecast? Nuclear Storm coming your way... - 89%

My friend lent me this EP about 7 to 9 months ago, I listened to it, but didn't give it much attention. I did listen to some Black Metal at the time, but I was mostly listening to Death Metal and Grindcore. I didn't think much when I first heard it.

My interest in Black Metal was sparked once again about a month ago. I had become more knowledgeable in the genre, and gained more respect for the music. My transfer from Death Metal to Black Metal was caused by the invasion of fake "Hardcore" kids (looking at all the Deathcore bands here) into Death Metal and the ever-present, over-rated, mind-dumbing breakdown.

So I picked this EP back up, and gave it a second listen.

This little EP right here, is a sleeper. I'm surprised people don't know about them. They are from Australia, and Death/Black Metal would be last thing you'd expect coming from down under. Onto the review:

The guitars are nice and crisp, and the riffs actually quite technical. They range from galloping Thrash, to chugged Death Metal and all the way back to tremolo picked Black Metal. There are solos everywhere, and I was quite pleased to hear them. The bass is audible, and it pops out quite a bit, which is good. It provides guidelines for the songs. The drums are quick and fast-paced, never resting, and are either galloping or blasting their way through the four songs (the intro has no drumming). The vocals are somewhere in between growled and harsh, and they are quite fitting to the music.

There isn't really anything here to complain about. This is definitely a good listen and good buy, however not mandatory. Pick this up if you are an avid Black/Death Metal fan.

Highlights: the entire EP...
